Managing the Data about Data
The importance of a Metadata Dictionary
in effective Metadata Governance

Presenter:  Sharath Chandra

Picture
Presentation Summary:  Decision-making is based more on data now than any other time in history. Our cell phones process more data now than what was used to put the first human in space!  This leads to the question – How reliable is your data? To be able to confidently answer that question, organizations must have a robust program in place ensuring effective governance of data quality. Metadata Management is the art of managing the data about the data. Metadata Management asks:
  • How do we capture metadata?
  • How do we track the evolution of data?
  • How do we catch the bad data?
  • What should be done to keep it clean?
In this presentation, Sharath will introduce those concepts and demonstrate how he built and leveraged a Metadata Dictionary at Radian as a case study.

More about Sharath: Sharath Chandra is an Enterprise Data Governance Specialist at Radian and has a Master’s degree in Business Analytics from Drexel’s LeBow College of Business. Sharath has an in-depth understanding of strategies, techniques and challenges faced while developing a robust Metadata Governance Program. He is passionate about facilitating adoption of ethical governance standards for data. Sharath has built and is currently expanding a Metadata Dictionary, is driving the Data Change Management Program, and has pioneered a cross-functional dialogue on data called “Data, Connected.”
